Below is a review of Jordin’s Houston Concert! I think its a wonderful review!

Jordin Sparks, in many ways, is still the same girl who won the sixth American Idol crown. She remains bubbly and bright, sugary and sweet.

But Monday night at the House of Blues, Sparks also showcased a very different performer. She was more mature, more confident and brandished a sassy onstage attitude. Not a girl, not yet a woman — but consistently entertaining.

She kicked off a brisk, 14-song set with the defiant pop-drama of Battlefield, her album and tour namesake. (This is Sparks’ first headlining tour after opening slots for Alicia Keys, Britney Spears and the Jonas Brothers.)

The young singer was backed by a four-piece band and three singers. She was dressed in simple gold and black — and whipped around lots of curly hair during the pounding bass of S.O.S. (Let the Music Play) (a recent club smash) and album cut Emergency (911), which wielded a surprisingly powerful punch.

Sparks talked about love and self-worth and breakups between songs. Even the non-singles — and there were many — were handled with care. The modest crowd screamed frequently and fervently throughout, and it kept the mood jubilant.

Vocally, Sparks does things that other singers here age (and several who are older, for that matter) just can’t do. Her precision and delivery have improved dramatically since Idol. She sustains power notes with ease, and switches easily between personas.

One Step At A Time and Walking On Snow had a youthful bounce, and No Parade was a gorgeous showcase for her maturing vocals. Sparks also previewed her upcoming Broadway debut with a song from the Tony-winning musical In The Heights. (See video below from another tour stop.)

Sparks saved two of her most familiar hits for the end of her set — Tattoo and No Air — and both incited enthusiastic singalongs. No Air in particular turned into an epic give-and-take, fans taking Chris Brown’s parts and Sparks later using it as a showcase for her entire band!

In this recent interview with azcentral.com, Jordin Sparks comments about her memories about the 4th of July, the national anthem, her headlining tour, and Broadway. Take a look at the interview Below!

___________________________________________________________________________________________

Jordin Sparks is one of the most All-American girls to ever come out of Arizona. She’s an “American Idol” winner, after all, and has become a favorite to sing the national anthem at high-profile events, such as the Super Bowl in Glendale in 2008 and the NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix last year.

She remembers being “all decked out in red, white and blue” when she attended an Independence Day parade in Glendale as a child and is a big fan of all types of fireworks. Sparks, 20, called to talk about July Fourth, her concert in Tempe tonight and her Broadway debut later this year.

Question: You have July Fourth off, and your July 3 show is in Reno. Any chance you might sneak home to Glendale to catch some fireworks?
Answer: I would love to. That’s a good idea! I’ve got to start working on that. The past couple years, every Independence Day, I’ve either been out of the country or too busy to see fireworks.

Q: Did you have a favorite place to see fireworks when you were younger?
A: We always went to visit my grandparents or great-grandparents in Minnesota or North Dakota. I remember watching fireworks at the lake, seeing them in the sky, with the reflections in the water. It was so pretty.

Q: Which fireworks are your favorites?
A: When I was younger, we would go on drives with our grandpa and stop at those fireworks stands on the side of the road. We got the smoke bombs that turned different colors and Black Cats (firecrackers). My uncles and older cousins got the big, loud ones, and those were really fun. I love the ones that make shapes in the sky, like a heart or flowers. I also like the ones that fall and look like a willow trees.

Q: Is the national anthem as challenging to sing as some vocalists claim?
A: It definitely changes up as far as the key and the range in the song, so I can see how that can be difficult. It’s the only song that I get really nervous about singing. It’s our nation’s anthem, and everybody knows it. If I mess up the words, everybody is going to know that.

Q: Is it exciting to be on your first headlining tour?
A: It is, and I’m so excited to be stopping in Arizona. The past few tours, I was the opening act and it wasn’t my call where the tour went. When they said we were doing a headlining tour, I said, “If we don’t stop in Arizona, I’m not doing it.”

Q: How are you approaching your Broadway debut, in the musical “In the Heights” (Aug. 19-Nov. 14)?
A: I’ve always wanted to do Broadway. I’ve done a lot of community theater – I was in (Phoenix-based) Valley Youth Theatre and drama club in high school. It (the Broadway role of Nina Rosario) kind of fell into my lap. It will be something familiar because I’ve done some theater, but Broadway is another animal!
